Morning Briefing: Carlos Mendoza Not Concerned with Senga’s Rough Rehab Start
Good morning, Mets fans!
Carlos Mendoza said he isn’t concerned with Kodai Senga‘s struggles in his latest rehab start and still expects the 31-year-old to make his season debut on Friday if he feels well. Senga got tagged for five runs and eight hits in three-plus innings for Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday. He threw 79 pitches and said he felt fine, chalking up his struggles to his forkball being ineffective.

Scott has now allowed eight homers in 47 1/3 innings, with six of the eight homers coming with men on base. The Mets are tied with the Diamondbacks and Padres for the third Wild Card spot.

The Braves were dealt a couple of blows on Sunday, placing Max Fried on the injured list with forearm neuritis, and losing Ozzie Albies for eight weeks after he suffered a fractured wrist during the team’s game against the Cardinals. Left-hander Dylan Dodd has been recalled to take Fried’s place, and Nacho Alvarez Jr. will assume Albies’ spot. The Mariners have placed former All-Star Ty France on irrevocable outright waivers. If he goes unclaimed, France can refuse an assignment to the minor leagues. 1986: Trailing the Reds 3-1 in the top of the ninth inning, the Mets tie the game when Dave Parker drops Keith Hernandez‘s routine fly ball. Tied in the 10th inning, pinch-runner Eric Davis steals third base and slides hard into the base, and when he gets up, chaos ensues when Ray Knight socks him in the face. Knight, Davis, Mario Soto, and Kevin Mitchell are all ejected for the fracas. Once the dust settles, Gary Carter moves to third base, Roger McDowell enters to pitch, and Jesse Orosco moves to left field. McDowell and Orosco alternate between pitching and playing the outfield for the rest of the game. Howard Johnson smacks a three-run homer in the 14th inning to give the Mets a 6-3 win.
2004: David Wright collects his first major league hit, a double off Montreal’s Zach Day. Unfortunately, the Mets fall to the Expos, 4-1.
