Jared McCain Update - Looking For Advice
And it’s a smart thing to do, too.
Jared McCain is busy winning over Philadelphia fans the same way he did at Duke: hard work, smart play and charisma.
In Summer League play, he has averaged 14.3 ppg, 6.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.3 steals.
The rebounding is particularly impressive for a smaller guard but his shooting has been uncharacteristically off and that’s his calling card: he’s hit just 26.1 percent from the floor.
So he’s doing the smart thing and asking for advice. He reached out to former Blue Devils JJ Redick and Seth Curry, both excellent shooters, about their adaptation to the NBA. Both took some time to get it right.
He also messaged Patrick Beverly, saying that he ”[j]ust wanted to reach out and ask for some advice into the NBA. I have some questions about everything, to be honest, and just want to learn as much as possible before I step on the court. I will take anything (praying hands). What’s some tips for succeeding as a rookie? How do I get on the floor? How do I get through slumps?”
You wonder who else he has hit up.
Regardless, it’s a smart thing to do. He’s 20 years old and he’s swimming with sharks. If he can get help, so much the better. In our opinion, he’s in the most competitive athletic environment in the world. Asking for advice is the smart thing to do. Our advice: talk to Jose Alvarado. That guy should have some insights.
