A’s vs. Angels game thread
A’s look to start the second-half of the 2024 season with a series sweep
The A’s have jumped out of the 2024 All-Star Game break red-hot primarily on the offensive end scoring 21 runs over two games against the Los Angeles Angels. Today, the A’s can earn a sweep over their division rivals with another victory.
Good morning and happy Sunday A’s fans. Hope everyone has had an amazing weekend.
This weekend has treated the A’s pretty well themselves as they’ve now scored 39 runs total over their last three games dating back to 7/14. The green and gold have also taken the last five straight over the Halos overall.
Today, Joey Estes will get the rock looking to build off a stellar last start before the All-Star game break. Estes threw six innings allowing just four hits and two runs on the 7/14 win against the Philadelphia Phillies, and two starts before that, Estes had a career outing against these very same Angels.
On that July 3 start Estes threw a complete-game shutout allowing just five hits and throwing 92 pitches total. We’ll see today if the rookie righty can replicate some of that luck against the struggling Angels again.
Below is the lineup that Mark Kotsay will use behind Estes this afternoon. Shea Langeliers and Abraham Toro are inserted into the starting nine after Toro was just activated from the IL, but the rest of yesterdays seven starters are the same. And rightfully so.

As for the Angels, they’ll counter on the pitching end with Carson Fulmer. Today will mark Fulmer’s second start of the season as he was used strictly as a relief arm before, but his first start wasn’t half bad. He went 4.2 innings allowing no hits and a walk while striking out seven as the Angels earned a win over the Seattle Mariners.
This is the lineup behind Fulmer today as written by manager Ron Washington:
