Lankshear was the academy’s star striker last season

Wayne Burnett guided Tottenham’s U21s to an incredible season, lifting both the PL2 play-off and league title, marking a new era of promising young talent emerging at Hotspur Way, with Will Lankshear being one of the standout stars.

19-year-old Will Lankshear netted twenty-three goals in as many games whilst playing in the PL2 with Tottenham’s U21’s last campaign (TransferMarkt). The outstanding individual season meant Lankshear swooped both the PL2 Player of the Season and PL2 top goal scorer awards.

Lankshear was one of the few members of the title-winning PL2 squad to not be handed a first-team chance. That was, until Wednesday evening, when Ange Postecoglou threw Lankshear into Spurs’ first pre-season game against Hearts.

It was an evening to remember for Lankshear

Postecoglou named Lankshear in his second half starting eleven, it only took Will ten minutes to have his name on the scoresheet.

Lankshear guided home an effort from just inside the box after meeting Djed Spence’s perfectly weighted pass in behind the Hearts defence.

The 19-year-old expressed his amazement in sharing a dressing room with some of Spurs’ stars on Wednesday explaining to Tottenham Hotspur’s media team: “I’ve grown up watching a lot of these players on TV and now being able to play with them, it was a massive learning experience.”

Tottenham’s youth star couldn’t hide his delight from scoring stating: “It’s an amazing feeling, a really proud moment and hopefully the first of many.

“All week I’ve been working on that and I knew I just had to take the chance, take my opportunity. The ball came in and I had nothing else on my mind other than to score.”

Many Tottenham fans will be hoping that Lankshear can make his statement of Wednesday’s goal being the first of many true with the 19-year-old seemingly wielding all the abilities to go on and be a top player.

Spurs face QPR in their final friendly before jetting off to Japan, it will therefore be interesting to judge how Lankshear does against QPR and whether or not he will go on the pre-season tour.
