'Boring': Conservative says Trump speech left delegates 'yawning and looking at watches'
Donald Trump isn't getting good reviews from those who watched his speech at the Republican National Convention on Thursday.
Bulwark editor-in-chief Charlie Sykes pointed out that even those most loyal and most dedicated to Trump were bored.
"He resorted to old tactics," MSNBC substitute host Ayman Mohyeldin said on "Deadline White House" Friday. "Does Donald Trump's performance last night, the rambling, undisciplined rhetoric change the calculation for Democrats by underscoring how vulnerable Trump is by letting him be himself and let him do what he does?"
Sykes said that if anything, Trump's speech reminded "everybody who Donald Trump is, a man incapable of self-control. I think the Democrats need to look at him and go, why are we not beating this guy? Why is this convicted if a long man is found liable for rape? Why is this ranter, and raver leading in the polls?"

He was also shocked to see just how incredibly "boring he was" in the speech, which lasted 92 minutes and set a record for the longest televised speech at a convention.
"Briefly before the convention started, we were sitting in the empty hall watching the rehearsal for all this. They were pumping up the music, lights, and Kid Rock," Sykes said. "I remember thinking to myself, you know, all Donald Trump has to do is come out and say 'I'm here,' and this crowd was so excited and so engaged."
Sykes called it a real "accomplishment to go from that level of excitement and anticipation to the boredom at the end. To watch these delegates, yawning and looking at their watches. All of this is a reminder of who and what Donald Trump is, but also all of his flaws and vulnerabilities. Democrats need to ask themselves, okay, we know all this. We've known this for eight years. Why are we right now?"
