The Betting Market For The Second Half Of The MLB Season

0

The second half of the MLB season is set to begin today. Can a New York Met win any of the awards? Can a Met finish the season with the most amount of home runs or wins? Let’s see what the betting market has to say, brought to you by DraftKings Sportsbook.

Regular Season Wins

The over/under for the Mets’ regular season win total is set at 82.5. To go over that number, they need to finish 34-33 over a 67-game stretch. If you believe the Mets will do that, you can get those odds at -120. If you believe they will struggle down the stretch, under 82.5 wins is at +100.

To Make the Playoffs

The Mets currently own the third Wild Card spot in the National League. Despite that, they are currently at plus money to earn a berth into the postseason. On DraftKings, you can get the Mets at +135 to make the playoffs. On the other hand, they are at -160 to miss the playoffs. In terms of value, this may be the best bet you can find for this Mets squad.

National League MVP

Despite not being named an All-Star, Francisco Lindor has the sixth-shortest odds to win NL MVP at +3000. He sits behind Shohei Ohtani, Bryce Harper, Freddie Freeman, Marcell Ozuna and Ketel Marte. Pretty remarkable stuff considering the type of start Lindor had in April. The other two Mets on the list are Pete Alonso at +8000 and J.D. Martinez at +15000.

National League Cy Young

The Mets do not have a pitcher who is in the mix for the Cy Young, at least not at the moment. Luis Severino is the only Met listed for the award at +20000. A bit surprising to not see Sean Manaea featured considering the kind of run he is on at the moment.

Manager of the Year

Of the awards, this is the one the Mets have the best chance of winning. Carlos Mendoza has the third-shortest odds at +1600. At the moment, he only trails Pat Murphy of the Milwaukee Brewers and Rob Thomson of the Philadelphia Phillies. If the Mets do find a way to make the playoffs, Mendoza could very well win this award. Otherwise, it will likely go to one of the other candidates. Since 2006, 16 of the 18 managers who have won the award in the National League have made the playoffs. The only two who were not a part of the postseason? Joe Girardi of the Miami Marlins in 2006 and Bud Black of the San Diego Padres in 2010.

MLB Home Run Leader

Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees has 34 home runs, five more than the next highest player. Considering the pace he is on, it would be a surprise if anyone else hit more by seasons’ end. But, the odds makers do believe Alonso is one of the better long shot bets. Right now, he has the eighth-shortest odds at +6000. Alonso begins the second half of the season with 19 home runs, 15 behind Judge. With so many people ahead of him, this is a bet I would personally stay away from. Lindor, who has 17 home runs, is available at +20000, which is another bet I would suggest staying away from.
