‘It’s the perfect first car!’ hails motors expert after buying motor that ‘rarely goes wrong’ for £500

A MOTOR EXPERT has hailed an unassuming “perfect first car” that sold for an astonishing £500 – and it only required a clean-up.

Youtube star known as ‘High Peak Autos’ took to social media to sing the praises of the Peugeot 107.

The online creator Matt calls the vehicle one of his “all-time favourite cheap cars.”

In labelling all the reasons as to why the Peugeot 107 is great, he said: “They’re just really honest decent little things – you can’t go wrong with them.

“And they make perfect first cars too because they rarely go wrong and when they do they’re not expensive to fix.

“Parts are cheap, they’re very economical, the road tax is cheap.”

A walkaround showed areas of paint flaking off, while the interior was covered in mud and grime.

There was even some rubbish left inside, with a cardboard drink cup with the straw still in sitting in the cupholder.

Fortunately, Matt was able to make a few quick and easy changes to get the little motor in shipshape condition.

But the changes meant he was able to list the Peugeot for £2,995, resulting in a profit of £1,600 – triple what he paid for the car in the first place.

Commenters loved the project, with one writing: “Best first car ever.

“Never went wrong and a full service used to cost £25.”

Another added: “After the ‘Matt treatment’, this little 107 could easily be considered a “tidy little motor”.

“Kudos again Matt for saving and sorting a little motor.”

In a similar tale, the High Peak Autos Youtuber also revealed how he bought a battered old Peugeot for just £250, only to sell it for a massive profit after some DIY tweaks.

The model in question was a 2009 Peugeot 308 with some pretty rough cosmetic issues.

For example, one of the wing mirrors was “held on by duct tape”, while it also suffered some of the wear and tear that you might expect from a car with 155,000 miles on it.

Speaking on his Youtube channel, though, Matt remained optimistic.

He said: “Nothing’s expensive… that looks alright.

“Does need a good old clean…not the end of the world though.”

And there was plenty to like, with the interior almost spotless save for some dog hair, two sets of keys and a vanishingly rare spare wheel in the boot.

A test drive didn’t reveal any faults either, with the motor having had regular servicing and coming with an MOT.

All in all, Matt set himself a budget of another £250 to make the repairs and upgrades he needed to sell the car on.

He just had to replace the rear tyres, wing mirror, number plates, steering wheel and give it a thorough clean.

That came to just £228 and he ended up listing it for £1,496, more than tripling his money with a profit of £1,000.
