Having a place in your home that’s an eyesore can really affect how you feel in, and about, your home.

This is why Betty, aka @at_home_with_betty on Instagram, decided to redecorate her hallway.

Clips showing the before show the stairs covered in bright red carpet and the walls painted in a dull grey.

Betty then featured footage of wood flooring being fitted to replace the carpet which also covered the downstairs hallway.

The walls were also painted white and she added detail with some grey paneling.

Once the stair carpet was ripped up, she showed herself painting the outskirts a bright white.

The after clip saw Betty entering her home to reveal the wood flooring, wall panelling, and a cream stair runner.

Red carpet, be gone!” she penned in the caption.

“To renovate this space we changed absolutely everything from floor to ceiling (!) to create the inviting entryway that we wanted.

“We skimmed and plastered the artex ceiling, moved the radiator, [and] changed the window and door.

“[We also] added a stair runner to match our upstairs twist pile carpet, panelled the hallway wall and added herringbone flooring,” she added.

She said there was more to come in her decorating mission, including adding a coat rack and panelling the stairs to match the hallway.

Asked who did the flooring by adoring followers, she said they did it themselves – along with everything else!

She said in the comments the flooring is from Pro-Tex Flooring and was in the colour Woburn Sand, while their panelling was purchased from Dulux in the colour Egyptian Cotton.

Prices for Dulux paint start from £6 depending on the size of tub.

Explaining how they managed to get their ceiling looking as good as new, she said: “My husband scraped as much of the artex off as possible, then applied PVA and plastered the ceiling.”

It looked completely different and people couldn’t believe it, taking to the comments to share their shock.

“SO pretty! What a glow-up!” one person wrote.

Four cheap home renovation tricks

YOU don't have to spend loads to give a room a new look. Here are five other home renovation tricks you can try.

Kitchen cupboards

One way to give your kitchen a complete transformation for less is to change the look of the kitchen cupboards. There are loads of different vinyl coverings out there to choose from, and it’s a quick and easy way to update your home.

Handles

Another thing you can try that won’t break the bank is to change up the handles. You can pick up relatively cheap handles in DIY stores, or even in the charity shop. Adding new ones to your kitchen cupboards, or doors in your house, can be extremely effective.

Leftovers

Most of us have old half-used tins of paint in the garage, but they’re often forgotten about. However, there may be enough in the pot to paint a feature wall in another room, and you won’t have to spend a penny.

Freebies

It’s worth checking your local Facebook Marketplace, or Freecycle, to see what other people are getting rid of. As they say, one person’s trash is another person’s treasure. And if someone’s planning to revamp a room, they might want to get rid of a sofa, or a coffee table, which you could use to give a lounge a new look.

Another penned: “Obsessed! Such a stunning job!”

“Looks incredible, amazing work [clapping hands and star eyes emojis].

“Love from fellow red carpet survivors!” a third joked.

A fourth said: “What a stunning difference, I love it [raised hands emoji].”

“Omg, what a transformation [heart eyes emoji],” a fifth commented.
