Ineia dismisses Greens on water to illegal properties

0

Ineia community president Yiangos Tsivikos has dismissed allegations by the Cyprus Greens that water in an Akamas protected area had been diverted to illegal properties.

Tsivikos said the water had been sent to farms, a move he had informed the government of two years ago so that it could financially assist the channelling of water.

Speaking to the Cyprus News Agency (CNA), he wondered how right it was for farmers to transport water in their trucks for their animals and how this worked as an incentive for young people to remain in this field of occupation.

In a press release, the Cyprus Greens had said sending water to farms was a facade for laying pipes along the road connecting Ineia with the turtle nesting area in Lara, Akamas.

This pipeline would also serve properties turned into holiday homes, many of which are illegal.

The Greens say there was reason to believe that the pipeline was part of the plan for residential development within the protected area of Akamas.
