Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro Wants to Force Residents to Fund Abortions

Pennsylvania’s pro-abortion Governor, Democrat Josh Shapiro, is bound and determined to make taxpayers pay for abortions in the Keystone State.

Pennsylvania already recorded more than 34,000 abortions–the equivalent of the population of a city–in 2022, the latest year for which statistics are available from the Department of Health.

This week, Gov. Shapiro—who has been mentioned as a possible candidate to replace Joe Biden on the Democratic Presidential ticket—announced that his Administration will fight against a long-standing state law barring Medicaid funding of abortions except in the rare cases of rape, incest, or to save a mother’s life.

The announcement comes after a January decision by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court to send a Medicaid abortion coverage case to the state’s Commonwealth Court for review.

The Governor is perpetuating the false notion that protections against taxpayer funding of abortion violate the Pennsylvania Constitution. This is absurd and violates the popular will of the public.

National opinion polls consistently show that the vast majority of taxpayers oppose taxpayer funding of abortion, which is the taking of an innocent, unrepeatable human life.

Research has also demonstrated that taxpayer funding of abortion boosts abortion totals. At a time when Pennsylvania abortion figures have already been rising, the Commonwealth can ill afford a dramatic upsurge in abortions.
