Shashi Tharoor slams India squad selection for Sri Lanka series

Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor has slammed Indian team’s squad selection for the Sri Lanka tour as Sanju Samson was dropped from the ODI squad while hard-hitting opener Abhishek Sharma couldn’t find a spot in the T20I team. Samson had scored a hundred in his last ODI during the tour of South Africa last year while Abhishek impressed everyone during his debut series against Zimbabwe where he smashed an amazing ton in only his second match.

Both Samson and Abhishek were expected to be in the ODI and T20I squads but were surprisingly left out. Samson did find a place in the T20I squad. Tharoor took to X and criticized India’s squad selection for both the T20I and ODI series.

“Interesting squad selection for India’s tour of Sri Lanka later this month. @IamSanjuSamson, who hit a century in his last ODI, has not been picked for ODIs, while @IamAbhiSharma4 (Abhishek Sharma), who hit a T20I century in the #INDvZIM series, has not been picked at all. Rarely has success in India colours mattered so little to the selectors! Good luck to the team anyway,” said Tharoor in his tweet.
