Virat Kohli To BCCI- Conflicts with Gautam Gambhir in Past

As Gautam Gambhir begins his time as the Indian head coach, many were left thinking what would the situation be for Virat Kohli, a player who has had countless number of issues with the former opener on the field. Gambhir emerged as the preferred candidate, especially considering the work he has done in IPL in the last 2-3 years. With Virat Kohli giving the affirmation to be a part of India’s ODI series against Sri Lanka, it would make this series the first time that he would be working under Gambhir in same team.

Within this situation, a report has confirmed that Kohli has assured the BCCI that his differences with Gambhir in the past are not going to have an impact on their relationship within the team. Since both of them are working for a similar goal, i.e. rise of Indian team, there is not much to be worried about.

While playing cricket, both Gambhir and Kohli are popular to wear their hearts on their sleeves. Whether it be playing as opponent teams in the IPL, or as a mentor and senior player of their franchise respectively, both have had some fierce clashes on the field. But, since Gambhir’s switch to Kolkata Knight Riders as their mentor, it has looked all well between him and Kohli.

A few weeks ago, Gambhir spoke about his relationship with Kohli, saying the country doesn’t even know what sort of a bond they have.

“The perception is far away from the reality. My relationship with Virat Kohli is something this country doesn’t need to know. He has as much right as I do to express himself and help our respective teams win. Our relation is not to give masala to the public,” Gambhir said.

Even Virat admitted to this and said that people were disappointed in him as he hugged Naveen-ul-Haq and Gautam Gambhir.

“People are very disappointed with my behaviour. I hugged Naveen, and then the other day, Gauti bhai (Gautam Gambhir) came and hugged me. Your masala is over, so you’re booing. We’re not kids anymore,” Virat said during a Puma event.

Kohli and skipper Rohit, both weren’t expected to be available for the 3-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. But considering it will be Gambhir’s first series while being in charge, both of them had to make themselves available.
