I’m a world famous golfer and my grandfather invented a hugely popular chocolate bar
WHETHER it’s a tee shot or tea and chocolate biscuits – it runs in the Montgomerie family.
Golf legend Colin, 61, is the most well-known member of the bloodline, captaining Europe to Ryder Cup glory in 2010 and reaching No2 in the world rankings.
But the Montgomerie surname isn’t just famous for making history in golf.
That’s because Colin has revealed to The Times that his grandfather invented Penguin biscuits and Blue Ribands.
The much-loved duo have been consumed up and down the country for decades.
Penguin biscuits were invented by William Macdonald and Sons in Glasgow in 1928.
With Blue Ribands launched eight years later again in Scotland by a business named Gray Dunn.
Colin’s father James carried on the legacy and also worked in the confectionery industry.
He was a manager at iconic brand Fox’s in Leeds during the 1960s.
And it led to the Montgomerie family moving south of the border, with his dad’s job coming with the added incentive of season tickets at Elland Road.
