Schmeichel, a member of Leicester’s legendary 2016 Premier League title-winning squad, was a free agent after leaving Belgian side Anderlecht in May.

Now he is back in the UK and aiming to add more silverware to his collection under Rodgers after lifting the 2021 FA Cup and subsequent FA Community Shield at Leicester together.

Schmeichel, who has 105 caps for Denmark and helped them to reach the last-16 of Euro 2024, said: “Celtic is one of the world’s proper football clubs, a massive name and a place of real passion and success.

“Celtic is what football is all about.”

Schmeichel, who spent 11 years at Leicester, will link-up with Rodgers and his new team-mates in America, where the Scottish champions are on pre-season tour.

On the prospect of working with Rodgers again, he added: “He (Rodgers) is a top manager and someone I can’t wait to work with again.

“I will be doing all I can to keep Celtic on top.”

Celtic have signed Denmark captain Kasper Schmeichel on a one-year deal after the goalkeeper led his country to the last 16 of Euro 2024.

Schmeichel’s father Peter was a legendary goalkeeper for Manchester United during the 1990s.

But Kasper started his career at Man City before having loan spells at Darlington, Bury, in Scotland at Falkirk, Cardiff and Coventry.

He left for a brief stint at Notts County and then headed to Leeds prior to joining Leicester in 2011.

He made 33 appearances for Anderlecht and kept eight clean sheets as they finished third in the Belgian Pro League.
