'Common sense': Marjorie Taylor Greene says 'deep state' controlled the Trump shooter

Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) offered a conspiracy theory claiming would-be assassin Thomas Crooks was controlled by "the deep state, the media, and the Democrats."

During the Republican National Convention, Greene spoke to The Benny Show Thursday about the shooting of former President Donald Trump.

"You know, I'll go ahead and jump out there and I could care less what anybody thinks," she insisted. "I do not believe that this 20-year-old was able to do this by himself. I do not buy the narrative that they're putting out there."

Greene claimed that reports saying Iran had also plotted to kill Trump were a ruse.

"I think they're just laying out the next country they really want to drop bombs on because they love war," she opined.

She said that a war on Iran "would be a complete distraction from the real case."

"The deep state, the media, and the Democrats have really called for President Trump to be assassinated for years. None of us are shocked that this actually happened," the lawmaker said. "We are just mortified that they did actually try to do it."

"I'm just using my common sense," she added. "They're going to label me a conspiracy theory. Who cares?"
