Trump’s Granddaughter Just Made Her RNC Debut
More often than not, Trump campaign events are family affairs, and three days in, the Republican National Convention is no exception. Donald Trump’s two sons and their significant others are there, and though Melania and Ivanka may still be MIA, Trump has wrangled another female relative to stump on his behalf: his 17-year-old granddaughter, Kai Trump.
After being introduced by her father, Donald Trump Jr., Kai took the podium on Wednesday night in a white cutout dress. She wisely steered clear of discussing any of Trump’s policies, instead reminiscing about their bond over “candy and soda.”
“I’m speaking today to share the side of my grandpa that people don’t often see,” she said. Lamenting that “the media makes my grandpa seem like a different person” — a sentiment also voiced by recent Trump convert Amber Rose a few days earlier — “but I know him for who he is.” She described Trump as a guy who “gives us candy and soda when our parents aren’t looking. He always wants to know how we’re doing in school. When I made the high honor roll, he printed it out to show his friends how proud he was of me. He calls me during the middle of the school day to ask how my golf game is going and tells me all about his, but then I have to remind him that I’m in school and I’ll have to call him back later.”
Kai, a huge golfing enthusiast who posted a photo of her grandfather holding up his fist after his assassination attempt Sunday with the caption “We love you Grandpa. Never stop fighting!,” talked about hitting the links with Trump and how he “always asks me how I’m doing … even when he’s going through all these court cases.” She added, “A lot of people have put my grandpa through hell, and he’s still standing.”
As a Trump, joining the campaign trail is the most obvious next step for Kai, whose mother is Don Jr.’s ex-wife, Vanessa Trump. Her father and his sonorous fiancée, Kimberly Guilfoyle, are both present — Guilfoyle made sure to tell the audience that Trump surviving his assassination attempt is proof that “God has put an armor of protection” over him, while Trump’s other son Eric Trump and his wife, Lara, the co-chair of the Republican National Committee, are also there. Eric has promised reporters that Donald’s wife, Melania, and daughter Ivanka, who previously said she does “not plan to be involved in politics” going forward, will be “coming in full force” later this week. Because what is a Republican convention if not a Trump family reunion?
