SAN PABLO — A 35-year-old man has been charged with hacking a woman to death, and with setting her body on fire in an ill-thought-out attempt to conceal the crime, which actually brought police and firefighters to the homicide scene, court records show.

William Stanley Ramirez was charged with murdering 40-year-old Angelina Rincon and with one count of felony arson of her body, court records show. He remains jailed in Contra Costa with bail set at $2.5 million.

Ramirez’s next court date, an arraignment hearing, is set for July 30, records show.

Ramirez and Rincon reportedly lived together in an encampment alongside a San Pablo creek. On the early morning of July 2, he allegedly hacked her to death with a machete and then set her body on fire, creating a large plumage of smoke and bringing the fire department and police to the area.

San Pablo police identified Ramirez as a suspect and arrested him on July 11 at a 23rd Street residence, according to a police news release.

A GoFundMe Page in Rincon’s memory says she left behind a daughter and was one of five siblings.

“Angelina’s generosity, unpredictability, and a free spirit will be incredibly missed,” the page says. “Her unexpected departure has left an irreplaceable void in our hearts and lives.”
