19-year-old PL2 Player of the Season, Will Lankshear, was rewarded for his efforts last season by being handed a five-year deal. The forward has wasted no time in getting back to work as Lankshear netted on his senior team debut against Hearts.

Lankshear marked his first senior appearance with a goal

It was widely celebrated by Tottenham fans last week when the club announced that Will Lankshear had penned a new five-year deal following the teenager’s outstanding goalscoring record for Tottenham’s U21s last season, scoring twenty-three times in twenty-three games. (TransferMarkt)

There were doubts over whether Lankshear would make the trip north to Scotland on Wednesday after the striker played in the U21s friendly against Enfield Town last week rather than facing Cambridge United in the senior sides behind-closed-doors friendly.

However, Postecoglou named the striker on his extended bench to play Hearts, with the 19-year-old getting his first taste of senior Spurs action in the second half of the game alongside fellow Tottenham academy players, Mikey Moore, Max Robson and Tyrese Hall.

Postecoglou says Lankshear has earned his chance

Lankshear ensured that he made the most of his first-team opportunity, tucking away Tottenham’s second goal in the 55th minute.

Spurs manager, Ange Postecoglou, was quizzed about the young striker’s inclusion with the first team and summarised: “Will was good. We kind of brought him in this last week. He’s looked bright in training. He worked hard. He’s had a very good year last year and it’s about rewarding him for that.”

Postecoglou praised Lankshear’s effect stating: “It’s about coming on and making an impact. He did well and he took his goal well”. (Football.London)

Spurs Web opinion

The current talk around Will Lankshear is that he will depart on loan (GiveMeSport), personally, I believe it may be the perfect move for Will with Scarlett and Veliz potentially in front of him in the pecking order.

Lankshear is certainly doing his best however to make himself known to Postecoglou, his goal against Hearts was well taken and should have made the Australian sit up and take note, which he seems to have done by his positive quotes about Will after his goal.
