Report: There is ‘no chance’ of Spurs star leaving this summer despite interest in him

Tottenham Hotspur are keen to offload a fair few players this summer, but there is one player who is definitely not going anywhere despite strong interest from Saudi Arabia.

Sonny is staying put at Spurs

Spurs captain, Heung-min Son, is the subject of intense attention from clubs in Saudi Arabia looking to sign a statement star this summer, but the latest report from GiveMeSport plainly states that the South Korean is staying in North London.

The report claims Son is an “ambitious target” for clubs in the Saudi league, but, try as they might, “there is no chance” Spurs will let their captain go this summer.

The player himself has “previously ruled out” the idea of a move to Saudi Arabia, and Spurs are in the process of extending his contract right now, too.

It is thought Al-Ahli will keep Son “on their radar” regardless, but will now have to “play the long game” in their pursuit of the 31-year-old, who they hope will one day “change his mind” about the switch to Saudi.

Contract extension incoming for Son

As mentioned above, it is almost certain that Spurs will be triggering a contract extension clause in Son’s current deal to extend his stay at the club until 2026 (Ben Jacobs). His current contract expires next summer, but it has long been expected that would be renewed without any issues.

As per The Athletic, once that extension is confirmed, the plan is to then negotiate a new, longer and bigger deal for Son.

Spurs Web Opinion

I really cannot see Sonny ever wanting to go and play in Saudi Arabia. He values the game too much to drop himself to that level, and hopefully, he’s given the opportunity to either retire at Spurs or stay at a high level until the end of his career.
