Controversy erupts as Hmar groups seek probe into Assam encounter deaths

Following a deadly encounter in Assam's Cachar district, where three alleged Hmar militants were killed and several police personnel injured, controversy has erupted with Hmar groups demanding a thorough investigation into the deaths. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reported the incident involving the militants from Manipur, claiming they were armed and posed a threat. However, the Hmar Students’ Association and Hmar Inpui allege the victims were villagers defending against militants, not armed combatants, criticizing the police's actions as unjust and calling for an impartial inquiry.
