Policeman among arrested for starting Xyliatos fire

A policeman stationed in Nicosia was one of the two suspects arrested on Sunday evening for a fire that broke out on Saturday in Xyliatos area.

The police said the fire appears to have started from works carried out by the two suspects, aged 50 and 66.

A witness statement placed the two at the site when the fire started.

A court on Monday ordered the two suspects to remain in custody for five days.

The policeman has been suspended, pending criminal and disciplinary procedures.
