US providing emergency assistance to flood victims in Afghanistan

Karen Decker, a U.S. Embassy official for Afghanistan, expressed solidarity with the recent flood victims in Nangarhar, Laghman, and Panjshir provinces, stating that her country is arranging emergency aid for those affected by the floods.

On Wednesday, July 17th, the U.S. Embassy official for Afghanistan posted on social media that they are monitoring the situation closely and mobilizing assistance for those in need, including essential supplies like food and water.

Ms. Decker wrote, “We are monitoring the situation and coordinating emergency aid, including food, water, and other essential needs, to support those affected.”

Meanwhile, Japan’s Ambassador to Afghanistan also conveyed sympathy for the recent flood victims in the country and assured that his country is closely monitoring the situation and stands with the people of Afghanistan.

Takayoshi Kurokawa stated, “The recent severe storms and devastating floods in Nangarhar, Kunar, Laghman, Panjshir, and Kapisa deeply saddened me. I express my condolences to those who lost their lives and extend my sympathies to their families.”

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has reported that 727 families have been affected following the recent floods in Nangarhar, Laghman, and Kunar provinces.

The Directorate of Information and Culture of Nangarhar released the latest casualty figures on Wednesday, July 17, stating that the recent storms and floods in the province claimed the lives of 45 individuals, with 350 others injured.

Provinces like Laghman, Kunar, Panjshir, Kapisa, and Badakhshan have also been affected by the floods, resulting in five fatalities in Kunar and two in Kapisa. The ongoing humanitarian response remains critical as authorities and international organizations continue to assess and address the needs of affected communities.
