My mother-in-law announced our pregnancy in the most inappropriate way – & she even revealed the name
A MOTHER-IN-LAW has been branded ”a narcissist” after shattering her daughter-in-law’s dream of a private pregnancy announcement.
Taking to Reddit, the mum explained that she’s currently 24 weeks pregnant with baby number two.
While the couple have shared the exciting news with their immediate family, the duo decided to keep it a secret until the baby – a little girl – is born.
However, her mother-in-law had a slightly different plan…
“My husband’s grandmother just recently passed away,” she explained to fellow social media users in the post.
“We are about eight hours into a 16-hour road trip to be at the funeral…well, I just so happen to get on Facebook and see his grandmother’s obituary and click on it and of course, it lists my husband and myself and our son in it as her still living relatives, and to my surprise, my MIL (who wrote the obituary) also included our daughter by saying ‘great-granddaughter coming soon, insert my unborn child’s name‘.”
The woman claimed that the mother-in-law had been made aware they weren’t announcing the little family addition until the baby was born – and had allegedly even tried to pressure them into changing their minds.
The mum said: “She asked me multiple times when we would announce when our answer never changed, and she seems to think this was a ‘simple mistake’.
”I didn’t even see the obituary until it had been posted for four hours, and many people had seen it. She thinks it is harmless.
“Prior to this, my MIL and I have had a pretty good relationship.
”I just find that this was intentional, as we’ve had the conversation on this topic and us not announcing at least ten times because she wanted us to announce.”
‘She knew exactly what she was doing’
Other Redditors immediately condemned the mother-in-law for her move, emphasising that this was not an honest mistake.
One person slammed the woman, writing: ”She knows this isn’t harmless.
”She knew exactly what she was doing given she asked about when you were announcing several times before.
”She’s testing your boundaries and your spouse’s boundaries.”
Another agreed, noting that not only was she in the wrong but she’d also taken ”attention away from honouring the deceased”.

The person added: ”This is possibly the last thing that will ever be written about grandma and mother-in-law is upstaging the obituary with a baby announcement.”
Meanwhile, others urged the woman to cut any contact with the mother-in-law once the baby is born.
“Now that you know she holds zero respect for you, you give her zero in return. No efforts. No info. Nothing,” someone said.
“Your MIL is a narcissist. They do crazy stuff like this, and nothing is sacred or exempt from attention grabs. Not even deaths,” a reader concluded.
