Lake George beach closed due to E. coli from storm
LAKE GEORGE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has temporarily closed Lake George's Million Dollar Beach. The closure is due to the heavy rains which resulted in elevated levels of E. coli in the water.
The E. coli was found through water sampling at the beach. Million Dollar Beach will stay closed until more testing shows improved water quality.
Million Dollar Beach has faced closures from E. coli in the past, including in 2021 and 2017. The DEC said this current closure is a precautionary measure to protect people's health and safety.
The DEC also announced that many camping and day-use sites in the Narrow Island group of Lake George Islands are temporarily closed due to storm damage. The sites will be closed until further notice while trees are cleaned up and the docks and infrastructure are repaired.
Customers affected by the camping site closures will be notified, said the DEC. You can view photos from the DEC of the storm damage in the video player above.
