Globally-inspired restaurant to open in Amsterdam
AMSTERDAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A new restaurant is coming to downtown Amsterdam. 44 Main is set to open in the former G’s Famous Lemon Cookies space at 44 Main Street.
The owner of 44 Main, who did not want to be identified by his name at this time, has worked in the restaurant industry for almost 20 years, mainly in fine dining. He told NEWS he has worked in two Michelin Star restaurants and one James Beard Award winner.
The owner moved to the Amsterdam area a year ago from Chicago, and has been looking for a space to open his own restaurant. He's been doing some renovations to the former G's Famous space including the kitchen and bar area, but nothing major, he said.
As for the menu, the owner said 44 Main will serve elevated, globally-infused dishes with farm-to-table ingredients, and offer a several course experience. The lunch menu will be casual but still elevated, and the dinner menu will "truly wow everyone."
The menu is not finalized yet, said the owner, but it should be in about a month. The owner has been previewing some of the dishes on the 44 Main Facebook page including Shrimp Scampi and gluten-free Lobster Mac.
G’s Famous Lemon Cookies closed on June 30 after five years. Owner Regina Tambasco Flint said she was joining her husband in retirement. At the time of the closure, Flint said they had leased the space out "to a very excited young man."
The 44 Main owner said he would love to get a James Beard Award for the restaurant after it opens. He's also planning on doing a meet-and-greet with the community sometime in August.
The owner is hoping to open 44 Main in the fall, around mid-September. The restaurant is set to be open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. during the week and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekends.
