AN UBER driver has revealed how much he makes through the app and the worst time to book a ride.

The handy side hustle could earn you hundreds in just a few hours on busier days – but there are some downsides for customers.

The motorist, who goes by the name On The Road UK, took his Tesla out for a seven-hour shift in Gillingham, Kent, to give his YouTube viewer a look at a typical day behind the wheel.

In the first hours alone he revealed that he made £25 over just four trips, helped by the fact that his motor is luxurious enough to qualify as an UberX.

That’s more than double the Government’s National Living Wage of £11.44 an hour.

For reference, if you were paid £25 an hour for a standard 9-5 shift, that would work out at £175 a day or around £45,500 a year before tax.

However, the Uber insider revealed that at peak times he can make even more.

He said: “Yesterday was the football game, England vs Netherlands.

“It was very busy.

“I worked like six hours and I made £190 plus a £20 cash tip from a very happy rider because England won.”

Likewise, in another video, he documented his time working on the day of the Euro 2024 final, where he scooped £360 for 10 hours driving at £36 an hour.

Mapped out to a year, that would mean a salary of £65,000 if every day was that good.

On the flip side of his success, though, is the revelation that, as you might imagine, such busy days are the worst times to try and book an Uber.

When demand is high, prices will be bumped up and drivers will prioritise higher-value rides or very short trips that keep them in city centres where they can make more money.

So if you find yourself needing to get home, especially late at night, you could find yourself paying premium rates or facing difficulty securing a driver.
