Which Apple Watch should I buy?
The latest Apple Watch comes in three models, the Series 9, the SE, and the Ultra 2. Which option you buy depends on your wants and budget.
The Series 9 is the standard model and the best Apple Watch for most people. It offers Apple's latest smartwatch and health and fitness tech, like faster performance thanks to a new chipset and the Double Tap feature that lets you simply activate certain functions with your fingers. Other improvements include a brighter, always-on display, enhanced health and fitness tracking, and more storage. However, Apple has had to disable the blood-oxygen measuring feature on all new Apple Watches due to a patent dispute.
The Apple Watch SE is the entry-level, budget-friendly option, but don't write it off just because of that. Despite being two years old, it has many of the great attributes that make the Apple Watch so popular — including important safety sensors like crash and fall detection — and will appeal to many users. Unlike the Series 9, you don't get the large, always-on display, Double Tap, newer S9 chipset, aluminum or stainless steel option, and other advanced tech. You also don't get some of the advanced health and fitness tracking features, or you'll get an older generation of them. But if you're looking for an affordable and reliable Apple Watch, the SE more than delivers on the essentials.
On the other end of the scale is the premium Apple Watch Ultra 2. Made from titanium, Apple took the Series 9 and beefed it up in size and features. It's only available in one size (the Series 9 and SE come in two sizes), but you get the largest and brightest screen to date on an Apple Watch. It's also extremely durable, as it's designed for outdoors and endurance use; there are extra sensors for those purposes, like a depth gauge. There's also an extra button called the Action Button, which gives you quick access to a favorite function. But possibly the best feature is its long battery life, which gives you over a day before recharging. However, all these benefits come at a higher cost; for most people, it's overkill.
