According to CPD, the suspects walked around the area of The Green, The Residences at James Place, Brynwood Reserve, The Residences at Akita Lane, and White Oak Park Condominiums, where police were called to after a report of the carjacking. At around 1:30 a.m., officers found Stakely injured at the intersection of Blue Knoll Drive and Annual Drive. She was pronounced dead at a hospital at 8:43 a.m. According to police, Stakely arrived at White Oak Park to pick up her 6-year-old son, who was being watched by a resident. She placed him in the back seat, then returned to the apartment to retrieve his belongings.

Police said a suspect jumped into the car, which was left running, and started to drive off. Stakely, seeing the car pull away, ran from the babysitter’s front door toward the car, screaming for her child. The car then hit Stakely, throwing her to the ground resulting in a fatal head wound. The child was unharmed.

Her brothers spoke with NBC4 on Thursday, remembering her as a loving and caring sister. She was also a speech therapist in a preschool program in Canal Winchester. “Everything she did she did whole heartedly, she didn’t half do anything,” said Megan Mayes, a speech therapist who worked with Stakely.
