June hotter by 5.7C this year

The most extreme temperatures ever were recorded in June, ranking the month the hottest in Cyprus’ climate history.

Temperatures inland were 5.7C higher than the average for the month.

Met service weather stations – 43 out of 52 – recorded the highest ever temperatures in June since they started operating.

Prodromos’ station in the mountains indicated temperatures 5.6C higher than normal, while along the coast it varied from 3.6C to 4.1C higher.

The lowest temperatures in June were from 3.2C to 4.9C higher than the mean temperatures for the month.

Fourteen out of the 16 mountain stations – at an altitude of 600m to 1,650m – recorded the highest ever temperatures for June since they started operating.

The same happened at lower stations too – 300m to 600m above sea level.

Of the 25 weather stations on the plains or in low altitude areas, only seven did not record the highest ever temperatures for June.
