Maya Rudolph looking to extend her Emmy record

0

Maya Rudolph has already won five Emmys and is looking to extend her record as the most awarded Black actress in TV academy history this year. She is poised to receive her first Emmy bid for Best Comedy Actress for her role as Molly Novak in “Loot” (she could also be nominated for Best Comedy Series for the Apple TV+ program). She can also receive another nomination in Best Comedy Guest Actress for her performance on “Saturday Night Live” as a guest host on the May 11 episode; she previously won that category in 2020 and 2021. And she’s in the running for Best Character Voice-Over Performance for her turn as Connie the Hormone Monstress in Netflix’s “Big Mouth,” which she has won three times for (2020, 2021, 2023).

In 2021 Rudolph managed one of the most impressive feats to date at the Emmys. She won consecutively in two categories for her voice work on “Big Mouth” and guesting on “SNL.” King had been the first Black woman to win back-t0-back Emmys in the same category when she claimed Best Movie/Limited Supporting Actress in both 2015 and 2016 for roles in the anthology series “American Crime.”

Rudolph has prevailed on five of her 11 bids to date. That haul puts her one win ahead of both Alfre Woodard who has racked up a whopping 17 nominations) and Regina King (who lost only one of her five races). The late, great Cicely Tyson won three of her 16 races.
