FSG latest position on major behind the scenes move just confirmed

FSG have officially pulled out of discussions to take a controlling stake in Ligue 2 club Bordeaux.

An announcement from the club’s official X (formerly Twitter) account saw the French outfit confirm the update in question, with the American outfit taking a step back in its plans to pursue a multi-club model.

@girondins noted barriers in the form of the ‘significant’ cost of the stadium in the coming years in addition to the general financial context of French football.

The Athletic had reported the sleeping giant has a complicated situation around its stadium which is currently owned by Bordeaux’s city council ‘in a public/private partnership and is also losing money’.

It’s worth emphasising that the Ligue 2 side is far from being a small fish in French football.

The club boasts a significant, loyal supporter base, genuine history, and a reputation for developing young talent. Former Liverpool target Aurelien Tchouameni, for instance, was a recent product of their academy.

Since being placed in administration in 2021, however, there can be no question that the side are in desperate need of investment.

The aforementioned Athletic report cites an estimate of £33.6m being required to fund the 2024/25 campaign owing to the high wage bill in place and additional overheads.
