‘Not a chance anyone would wear that at MY wedding’ people rage as woman shows off OTT mother of the bride outfit
A WOMAN has caused controversy after revealing the VERY pale outfit she chose for her daughter’s wedding.
While unspoken, there’s a widely-accepted rule that suggests the only person at a wedding wearing white should be the bride herself.
A woman has caused controversy with her VERY pale wedding guest outfit[/caption]So when a woman took to TikTok to show off the jumpsuit she’d settled on, she was quickly slammed by others.
She shared a video of herself in the one-piece, which was in a very pale colour that looked to be just a smidge off white.
It featured a train and feathered sleeves, and the woman teamed it with a dramatic hat too.
While the outfit was undoubtedly flattering, lots of those weighing in on the ensemble insisted it was entirely unsuitable for a wedding guest to wear.
“Mother of the bride really shouldn’t wear white,” one wrote.
“Mother of the bride should not wear white – tone down a bit,” another suggested.
“Who wears white at a wedding?” a third commented.
“Definitely not the mother of the bride!”
“Why would you wear white to your daughter’s wedding?” someone else queried.
“I just don’t get the thought process!”
“It is stunning, however how many brides would hit the roof if their future MIL turned up to the wedding in this,” another argued.
“Not a chance would anyone be wearing white at my wedding not even my mum or mother-in-law,” someone else insisted.
As another jokingly wrote: “Honey, you’re not supposed to outshine the bride.”
Someone else called the ensemble “far too much”, as another added: “Mothers of the bride & groom do not wear white”.
To which bridal boutique The Ivory Dressing Room, who posted the video on TikTok, replied: “Mothers of the groom = no, but mother of the bride = yes (with the bride’s permission)”.
“Why are you doing mob outfits in white?????” another asked.
To which the boutique replied: “We get so many requests for mother of the bride to be in ivory or beige!”
Others were more complimentary about the outfit, with one writing: “Hands down the most stunningly beautiful mother of the bride outfit ever…adore this.
Wedding Guest Outfit Etiquette
If you're struggling to decided on a dress to see you through wedding season, here's a few rules on what not to wear so you don't get in trouble.
- Folklore says that wearing red at a wedding means you slept with the groom.
- Casual attire like jeans and flip flops should always be avoided.
- Any colour that could be picked up as white or cream – even if it’s not.
- Most would agree that your cleavage needs to be covered.
- Wearing white is a massive no-no if you’re not the bride.
“You’ve smashed this. Classy, elegant, rich rich rich b**ch energy.”
“It’s beautiful but just too much with the long coat over it and definitely not the right color for a wedding unless you’re the bride but hey that’s just me,” another added.
“White or beige shouldn’t be acceptable but the outfit is beautiful just needs to be a different colour,” a third said.
With the boutique responding: “We have it in pink or cobalt blue too.
“We get lots of requests from brides for their mum to be in ivory too though.”
