'Stop it': Former GOP staffer questions whether 'CNN officially jumped the shark'

0

Tara Setmayer, a senior advisor for anti-Trump group The Lincoln Project, and a former Republican congressional staffer, on Monday, called out CNN's Jake Tapper and Chris Wallace over comments the hosts made regarding Donald Trump's appearance during the Republican National Convention's opening night.

Setmayer wrote via X (formerly Twitter): "Is it me or has CNN officially jumped the shark? [Jake] Tapper: 'You can see the emotion on his face Trump...It looks like possibly even tears on his face...' [Chris] Wallace: 'That may be the most electric moment I ever saw..' They can't be serious. Trump is a convicted felon, adjudicated rapist, fraudster who incited an insurrection to stop the peaceful transfer of power. STOP IT."

Additionally, Bobby Shriver — nephew of former U.S. President John F. Kennedy, and former U.S. senators Robert F. Kennedy and Edward M. "Ted" Kennedy — observed Wallace's comment via social media as well.

He wrote, "Chris Wallace just said he’s been covering conventions since 1964. He said Trump’s entrance tonight was the most moving thing he’s seen in his career. Did he cover the 1964 Democratic convention when Robert Kennedy walked on after his brother was murdered? @CNN"

Several journalists also criticized CNN hosts a few weeks ago following Trump's debate with President Joe Biden.

The Associated Press reported, "CBS’ Gayle King said later that the lack of fact-checking benefited Trump because he was able to seem more in control with his answers. 'If you don’t know the facts, you’d think he was making a lot of sense,' she said."

The news outlet also noted, "CNN’s Daniel Dale sent out several fact-checks on social media during the debate, but television viewers would not be aware of them unless they happened to look for them. Per CNN rules, other networks carrying the debate were not allowed to break in with any commentary of their own until the debate was finished."
