BCCI Orders India’s International Cricketers to Join Domestic Leagues

0

NEW DELHI: The BCCI has mandated that all elite cricket players, with the exception of veteran players such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah, play domestic cricket whenever they are not on national duty.

This action demonstrates the BCCI’s emphasis on the value of domestic cricket in preserving players’ form and competitive advantage. Teams for the Duleep Trophy will henceforth be chosen by the national selection committee, which will take the place of the zonal selection committee.

Test specialists are required by regulation to participate in a minimum of one or two Duleep Trophy matches in August in order to get ready for the upcoming Test series against New Zealand and Bangladesh. It is thought that this is crucial to the players’ preparedness for international games.

“This time, there isn’t a zonal selection committee for the Duleep Trophy,” a BCCI source told PTI. The Duleep teams are selected exclusively by the national selection committee. Every candidate for the Test team will be chosen. It will be up to Rohit, Virat, and Bumrah to decide whether or not they want to participate.”

The focus on domestic cricket is thought to be an essential strategy for keeping players at the peak of their abilities. The BCCI permits senior players to select their level of involvement, even if it requires most of them to play, understanding that they must efficiently manage their workload.

This strategy strikes a compromise between ensuring that important team members get enough sleep and allowing others to improve through local tournaments.
