Man Utd could now sign 28y/o centre-back who didn’t lose a league game last term amid De Ligt delay - report
Manchester United have recently made inquiries about signing Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Jonathan Tah this summer, according to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.
The Red Devils have been in talks to sign his Bayern Munich counterpart Matthijs de Ligt, but both clubs have yet to reach an agreement, with Man United yet to table a final bid.
As a result, a move for the Netherlands international is far from being completed, and it appears the Old Trafford club have other contingency plans in place, with Tah now a possible target.
The Leverkusen vice-captain has been on the radar of Bayern for a while but there is no agreement between both clubs, with Man United aware of the situation.
Tah helped his side go unbeaten in the 2023-24 Bundesliga campaign as they finally won the title after more than 30 years without silverware, but he could be on his way out of the club after spending nine years within their ranks.
The 28-year-old featured in 47 games across all competitions last term, weighing in with six goals and an assist, with Leverkusen also winning the German Cup and reaching the final of the Europa League.
Man United need such a centre-back within their ranks, and it appears his performances at the European Championship also caught their eyes.
Tah featured in four of the five games his country played before they got eliminated by eventual winners Spain in the quarter-final, establishing himself as first-choice pairing in the heart of defence alongside Antonio Rudiger.
The 6ft 5in defensive star made over 250 Bundesliga appearances and is in the peak of his career, which is why a move for him at this stage makes perfect sense for the Red Devils.
Tah is arguably an upgrade on De Ligt who could only watch Euro 2024 from the bench having fallen down the pecking order in the Dutch team, and Man United will be making a great move if they manage to lure him away from Leverkusen this summer.
