As a reward for his swingman work in this first half, Jared Shuster gets the final start of the first half dumped on him in what will be a faux bullpen game. The White Sox would be thrilled to get five solid innings out of Jared. To be fair, they would be thrilled to get five solid innings out of anyone at this point: pitchers, hitters, front office, vendors, parking lot personnel, concessions ...

The Pirates have the hunger to get to .500 and paint their second half as rosy as possible ... and in the godawful NLC, a .500 team at the break can afford to dream.

(Well, the Pirates don’t have their lineup up yet and in case I don’t get back to it, here’s ONeill Cruz hitting four-singles star Bryan Reynolds with a light shower during his postgame interview yesterday:

We’ll also have extended Sunday coverage, in that, dunno you may have heard, the MLB draft starts tonight. Brett will have the first round pick up sometime around 6:30 or 7 p.m., and I’ll be taking the sandwich pick after that and the second-rounder as well.
