Trump to travel to Milwaukee on Sunday, 1 day after assassination attempt

Former President Trump said Sunday he would leave for Wisconsin, the site of the Republican National Convention, less than 24 hours after an assassination attempt on his life at a campaign rally left him bloodied.

"Based on yesterday’s terrible events, I was going to delay my trip to Wisconsin, and The Republican National Convention, by two days, but have just decided that I cannot allow a 'shooter,' or potential assassin, to force change to scheduling, or anything else," Trump posted. "Therefore, I will be leaving for Milwaukee, as scheduled, at 3:30 P.M. TODAY. Thank you!"

The former president said Saturday he was hit in the ear by a bullet while speaking at a rally in Butler, Pa. One other rally attendee was killed, as was the suspected shooter.

The FBI has identified the suspect as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pa.

Late on Saturday, Trump’s campaign and the Republican National Committee confirmed that the former president would still be in attendance at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, which starts Monday.

Trump is expected to announce his running mate during the convention, likely on Monday, and he will formally accept the party's nomination in a keynote address on Thursday night.
