VERA’S Brenda Blethyn has admitted she’s ‘tired and emotional’ as she films her final scenes for the ITV drama.

Filming of the final series of Vera appeared to have taken its toll as Brenda bid a farewell to the popular character once and for all.

The 78-year-old is known for her heartwarming portrayal of the beloved Northern sleuth, having played DCI Stanhope for the last 13 years.

She took to X, formerly Twitter to say: “Travelling home after finishing filming series 14 of VERA. Tired and emotional.”

She was close to tears as she bid farewell to the show saying:  “Working on Vera has been a joy from beginning to end and I’m sad to be saying Cheerio. But I am so proud of our achievements over the last fourteen years.

“I’ll be forever grateful to the wonderful Ann Cleeves who created Vera and Elaine Collins who saw fit to cast me in the role.”

Despite demanding filming schedules this week, she and the cast still found time to raise money for charity, posting a picture of a cake and the words: “Last few days of filming Vera, but we still have time for MacMillan.”

Fans love the actress and will miss her greatly. They consider her a national treasure up in the North East where the series is set.

One fan shared “The end of an era. Looking forward to the final series but tinged with sadness.

“Thank you for the care with which you translated Vera from the books to the screen. It has also been a great tourism boost for the North East.”

Another fan penned: “Thank you, Brenda, we love Vera so much.”

“Thank you for all your hard work Brenda and all the cast and crew for bringing us our beloved Vera, ” added a third.

Meanwhile a fourth shared: “Think I will have to watch the re-runs forever. I’m too attached to let you go.

“I hope you feel proud that so many of us feel a connection to you.”
