Hibs Women 6 Boroughmuir Thistle 0

The Hibees started their pre-season preparations in fine form with an impressive victory over Boroughmuir Thistle at Meadowbank.

Kathleen McGovern secured a first half hat-trick before Mya Christie, Kirsty Morrison and Lia Tweedie lengthened the scoreline in the second half.

The game started in positive fashion as Kirsten Reilly struck the post with a terrific effort from the edge of the area within three minutes.

Hoping to endear herself to her new set of supporters, Kathleen McGovern opened the scoring a couple of minutes later. The forward linked up well with fellow summer signing Ciara Grant to prod home from a well-worked free-kick.

McGovern went some way to extending that endearment by scoring a second not long after, sweeping the ball mid-flight past the Boroughmuir goalkeeper after a lofted pass forward by Reilly - the provider nearly turned scorer herself, hitting the post again minutes later.

Our new number 10’s work ethic paid off in dividends, as McGovern secured her hattrick shortly before halftime; prodding home once more at the back post from Tegan Bowie’s low cross.

Following the second half restart, Erin Clachers and Linzi Taylor entered the field to make their respective first showing in Hibernian colours.

Keeping the pressure on and giving no room to Boroughmuir, Michaela McAlonie charged down the right flank with a superb run before cracking the roof of the crossbar with a brilliant strike and leaving the opposition goalkeeper rooted to the spot.

Come 65 minutes and Mya Christie extended the scoreline to 4-0. The wing-back tapped home at the back post after eagerly waiting for Ellis Notley’s low cross.

Kirsty Morrison made sure to carry on the fine form by scoring our fifth soon after. A mistake by the goalkeeper gifted her a fine opportunity to pounce and she neatly poked the ball into the empty net from just yards out.

Ending the match in a similar vein to how they started, Lia Tweedie headed home for our sixth goal of the afternoon shortly before full-time to round off a well-deserved victory on the team's return to the pitch!
