Andy Murray shows off gruesome-looking result of surgery as he heals after spinal cyst was removed before last Wimbledon

ANDY MURRAY has shown off a significant lump on his back from where he had surgery last month.

The British tennis legend, 37, went under the knife 22 days ago to address a cyst on his spine.

Murray’s injury caused him to retire from his match against Jordan Thompson at Queen’s.

He was then forced to pull out of the singles draw at Wimbledon, for what would have been his final appearance.

The three-time Grand Slam champion did manage to enter the doubles in SW19 alongside brother Jamie.

After the Murray brothers were defeated by Australia’s John Peers and Rinky Hijikata, Andy was honoured on Centre Court.

An array of stars including Novak Djokovic came out to appreciate Murray as Sue Barker returned to interview him on court.

Murray is down to play at the Olympics in Paris later this summer, in what will be the final event of his tennis career.

With the Paris 2024 tennis event set to get underway in 13 days, the two-time gold medallist appears to be pleased with his injury progress.

Taking to social media, Murray shared a picture of a large looking lump on his back.

He wrote: “Back healing nicely.”

Murray then shared a second snap of the lump looking even larger.

In addition to playing men’s doubles with Jamie, Murray had been set to play in the mixed event alongside Emma Raducanu.

He was not able to take to court, however, due to Raducanu pulling out on the morning of their first round match.

The former US Open champion, 21, cited “wrist stiffness” as her reason for pulling out.

Judy Murray, Andy’s mother, tweeted that it was “astonishing”.

Responding to Judy’s post after losing to Lulu Sun in her Centre Court fourth round singles match, Raducanu said: “I hadn’t seen Judy’s reaction. I’m sure she didn’t mean it.

“I think with every decision, people are entitled to their opinions. Of course, there was a bit of a cloud around the decision.

“I don’t think I would have done it any other way. I think in this sport especially, as an individual, you have to make your own calls and prioritise yourself.

“Especially with my history, I just had to put myself first.”
