NATIONAL SUMMARY
Late-afternoon and evening thunderstorms from southern
Canada through the northern Plains and Midwest can bring
flooding downpours, hail and localized damaging wind gusts
today. Across the Great Lakes region and northern Ohio
Valley, heavy afternoon thunderstorms can bring locally
gusty winds. Meanwhile, another heat wave begins across
portions of the Southeast and mid-Atlantic. An area of high
pressure anchored over the Rocky Mountains will continue to
promote high temperatures, dry weather and sunny skies. Many
locations will challenge daily record-high temperatures. It
will be very warm and humid across the Southeast and a few
afternoon thunderstorms can rumble. Afternoon thunderstorms
will dot Arizona and Nevada and will bring strong winds.
Cool and mainly cloudy weather begins along the West coast.
