Palace want Plymouth keeper Michael Cooper, who is stalling on a new deal.

Wharton only joined the Eagles from Blackburn in February, but has since enjoyed a meteoric rise.

He made 16 appearances for Oliver Glasner’s side as they finished 10th in the Premier League.

His performances also earned the youngster a first senior England call-up at the end of the campaign.

After making his debut against Bosnia & Herzegovina in June, Wharton was named in the Three Lions’ 26-man Euro 2024 squad.

However, he has yet to feature in England’s run to the final against Spain.

Back at Selhurst Park, Wharton still has five years remaining on his contract.

As for Cooper, the 24-year-old is into the final 12 months of his Plymouth deal.

The academy graduate kept six clean sheets in 19 Championship appearances last term as Argyle beat the drop.

He had missed the first 10 weeks of the season recovering from a torn cruciate ligament.

Cooper has twice been named player of the season at Home Park since being promoted to the first-team aged 17.

His potential arrival would provide competition for both Dean Henderson and Sam Johnstone between the sticks.

Glasner has already been busy this summer, with Palace signing defender Chadi Riad from Real Betis and Japanese midfielder Daichi Kamada on a free transfer.

Meanwhile, Michael Olise completed a £49.5million move to Bayern Munich earlier this month.
