Jennifer Lopez Is Allegedly Furious About the ‘Cold’ Way Ben Affleck Handled This Dispute
While Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck haven’t officially filed for divorce, the fact that the two just put their 12-bedroom, 24-bathroom Beverly Hills mansion up for sale on July 11 isn’t inspiring much hope for fans of Bennifer 2.0. Now that the couple’s palatial estate, which neither of the two seemed to really enjoy living in in the first place, is listed at $68 million, it looks like Affleck got a head start on the move-out while Lopez was enjoying a solo vacation in Italy.
Lopez returned from her holiday only to find that Affleck had moved out in a manner she described as “cold” and “military-like.” An insider shared, “Jen was horrified when she came back and found out Ben had packed everything up while she was gone. She was in such a good mood after her holiday and looking forward to sitting down with Ben and being amicable, but he went and just took his stuff. It was all very cold, like a military operation and, as far as she’s concerned, a real slap in the face.”
Lopez and Affleck’s rekindled romance, which began in April 2021 after her split from ex-fiancé Alex Rodriguez, has been nothing short of wild, at least for those who grew up watching the two walk every red carpet together in the early aughts. The duo, who first connected on the set of the 2002 film Gigli, broke up at the beginning of 2004, with Affleck citing media attention as one of the main reasons for their relationship’s demise.
The two recaptured the world’s attention as they started to rekindle their romance back in April 2021. By July 2022, the two were officially married — a big departure from the long and ultimately terminated engagement the two had in 2003. However, it seems history might be repeating itself. Whispers of trouble between the two began surfacing by mid-2024, particularly around their living arrangements and the conspicuous absence of wedding rings. And with kids in the picture from previous relationships for both Lopez and Affleck, things have become more complicated than the first time around.
“Jen expected they’d go through the stuff together and decide who got what, but he’s taken it upon himself to totally remove her from the process and he’s taken some things she considered hers, which is infuriating,” the source continued, per Heat World. “But that’s not the most upsetting part — it’s the fact that he wanted to do it without her and took all agency away from her that’s just so insulting. She’s now got to waste her time doing an inventory to figure out what he’s taken. They had so much stuff they bought together — everything from furniture, to art, to homewares — and Jen doesn’t see why Ben should get first dibs. If he thinks that she’s just going to let this slide, he has another think coming.”
This isn’t the first time personal differences have put a strain on their relationship. Their highly publicized reunion was marked by several public appearances, including red carpet events where the awkward body language between the two said it all. Affleck’s discomfort with Lopez sharing intimate details of their relationship in her music and documentary further widened the gap. “Things that are private I had always felt are sacred and special in part because they’re private. So, this was something of an adjustment for me,” Affleck admitted in Lopez’ documentary, The Greatest Love Story Never Told.
Sources close to the “Jenny from the Block” singer suggest that she’s starting to feel an even greater imbalance in their partnership. “She was the one doing all the work,” another insider noted, emphasizing how Lopez constantly endeavored to lift Affleck’s moods and maintain a facade of perfectly in-love celebrity couple. With their mansion up for sale and Affleck’s alleged avoidance of Lopez as he cleared out, it seems like Lopez is starting to realize she needs a partner who truly meets her halfway.
