The Mets look to end the first half of the season on a high note as they welcome the Colorado Rockies to Citi Field for a three game set! Going into today’s slate of games, the Mets currently hold the third Wild Card spot and officially control their own destiny. The vibes continue to be good, so let’s get another win!

Sean Manaea has tossed 89 1/3 innings over 17 starts this season with a 3.43 ERA, 3.68 FIP, 1.243 WHIP and a 113 ERA+. Over his last three outings in particular, he has allowed only one earned run across 18 innings while striking out 14 batters (0.50 ERA, 3.45 FIP). The only blemish on his ledger during that time has been a high walk rate as he’s allowed 10 free passes in his last three starts.
The Rockies have the following career numbers against Sean:

- Jake Cave 0-1, K

Tanner Gordon will pitch in his second major league game after making his debut a week ago. In his first outing, he allowed five runs on eight hits over 6 1/3 innings against the Kansas City Royals. Gordon utilized four different pitches in that game, including a low-90’s four seamer, mid-80’s change up and a mid-80’s slider to go with a sinker that he threw just once. In the minor leagues this season, he made seven starts totaling 33 2/3 innings with a 5.35 ERA and 1.455 WHIP (it’s also the PCL, so take the stats with a grain of salt). Gordon was originally drafted by the Braves and was dealt in the Pierce Johnson trade last season after struggling in the Atlanta farm system.
Game Notes
The Mets announced that David Peterson was placed on the Paternity List ahead of Friday’s game. In a corresponding move, the club recalled Eric Orze from Triple-A Syracuse after initially optioning him on Tuesday following his major league debut against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters that reliever Sean Reid-Foley is “trending in the right direction” as he works his way back from a right shoulder impingement. His most recent appearance came on June 19 before being placed on the injured list on June 22. Through 23 games this season, Reid-Foley has posted a 1.66 ERA and 2.80 FIP across 21 2/3 innings.
Three Things To Watch For
- Can the Mets use Phil Maton two days in a row? Phil Maton had a stellar debut on Thursday for the Mets just two days after arriving via trade from the Tampa Bay Rays. He tossed only 10 pitches, nine of which were strikes, and recorded two strikeouts while showcasing a devastating curveball. It was an all-around memorable debut for a bullpen that desperately needed a boost. This was the third outing over his last four in which he pitched an inning and recorded two punch outs.
- Get to the Rockies Bullpen. The Rockies are currently saddled with the worst run differential in baseball (-167) and a lot of that falls on the bullpen. The team’s relievers own a 5.91 ERA, which is the lowest in the league (next closest is the Blue Jays at 4.83). It doesn’t stop there as they also have put up the worst WHIP (1.63), hit (390) and earned run (223) totals.
- Brandon Nimmo – run producing machine. Nimmo had one hit yesterday, but it was a big one. He came through with a bases-clearing double in the fifth inning off MacKenzie Gore, which put him at 62 RBIs on the year. He leads the Mets in that stat by a healthy margin as Alonso and Lindor trail him at 49 at 48, respectively. What a season for Nimmo and hopefully that continues tonight!
Let’s go Mets!
