Turkey to deport five commanders of Marshal Dostum

0

Turkey has detained five military commanders affiliated with Abdul Rashid Dostum, leader of Afghanistan’s Islamic Movement party, and transferred them to a migrant repatriation center in Istanbul.

The Afghan Embassy in Ankara stated readiness to assist in their release.

According to a report, Turkish police forced four military commanders of the Islamic Movement party, under Abdul Rashid Dostum’s leadership, to sign deportation documents expelling them from Turkey.

Meanwhile, the report also said that the legal residency of many officials and military personnel from the previous Afghan government has expired, leaving them vulnerable to deportation. Turkey has not renewed residency for these Afghan officials, who fear leaving their homes due to potential police detention.

A source close to the Islamic Movement party of Afghanistan stated that approximately two hundred families, including members affiliated with Marshal Dostum, face deportation as their residency dates have expired, putting them at risk.

Some individuals at risk of deportation argue that military members associated with this party, known for its long history of conflict against the Taliban, may face death if returned to Afghanistan.

The Islamic Movement of Afghanistan is one of the prominent political parties in Afghanistan, founded in 1992 under the leadership of Abdul Rashid Dostum. This political-military organization significantly influences the northern provinces of Afghanistan, particularly among Turkic-speaking communities.

Many leaders of the Islamic Movement of Afghanistan, including Abdul Rashid Dostum and his family members, fled to Turkey following the fall of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in August 2021 and have resided there since.

Some members of this party claim that Turkey has violated its commitment not to expel officials and military personnel from the previous government, resulting in unconditional deportations of Afghans who sought refuge in this country due to the risk of retaliation from the Taliban.

Among these refugees are Afghans who entered Turkey through official and unofficial channels, including those with and without visas.
