COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – An Ohio fugitive, who was extradited from a Georgia jail, faced murder charges Friday in a fatal Far East Side shooting.

Court documents show that Kenyatta Domingo Glass -- who was arrested in Lawrenceville, Georgia, 10 months after the homicide -- was extradited to Columbus this week and faced a Franklin County Municipal judge for an arraignment hearing.

Glass is accused of fatally shooting Shawn Grooms in 2023 near the Lotus Lounge on Channingway Boulevard in the Walnut Hills neighborhood. Police responded to reports of shots fired at that location about 1:40 a.m. on Sept. 3.

Grooms was found with a gunshot wound to the head and pronounced dead 10 minutes later.

Police said numerous witnesses fled the scene during the initial panic after the shooting, which did not yield any suspects for months. An investigation revealed video evidence that showed Glass within feet of Grooms and dropping a handgun on the way out of the Lotus Lounge at the time of the shooting.

Ballistics matched shell casings recovered from the scene to the gun seen on video surveillance. DNA evidence then matched that of Glass to DNA found on the gun recovered at the scene, court documents show.

The Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team adopted the case and began searching for Glass in January. On May 2, police charged Glass with murder and considered him armed and dangerous.

SOFAST eventually discovered that Glass had fled the Columbus area. He was located in Lawrenceville, northeast of Atlanta, which is about 600 miles away.

The U.S. Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, along with the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Unit and the State Patrol SWAT team arrested Glass on June 24, and he remained in custody there for three weeks.

On Friday, a judge issued Glass a $2 million bond and ordered him to next appear in court on July 19 for a preliminary hearing.
