‘It’s so millennial!’ Interior designer slams popular trend and lists other home ‘Icks’ that scream ‘cheap Amazon buy’

THERE are some popular trends you should avoid if you don’t want your home to end up looking cheap, at least according to these interior design pros.

Robert Gigs and Ethan Gaskill have made a name for themselves on social media thanks to their viral videos sharing the trends they can’t stand.

In a recent video the pair slated a popular furniture trend as being “so millennial.”

Posting on TikTok, Robert confessed it’s “probably my biggest home decor ick ever.”

So, what is the trend?

According to Robert brushed brass or matte gold hardware and furniture is a big no-no.

Whether it’s lighting, furniture, faucets or shower heads – it’s all just as bad for the home pro.

“It reads cheap to me,” he said.

Robert even compared the matte gold trend to cheap Amazon products, which probably isn’t what you want if you’ve spent money on something.

The worst offence is brushed gold and black combo, the home whizz continued.

“It just never looks good,” he said.

So, what should you do instead? Stick with silver and chrome for a more elevated look, Robert explained.

Or if you’ve loyal to the glam gold look opt for a shiny gold instead, this will look much more expensive than it’s matte counterparts.

The interiors duo also slammed another popular trend – smart home decor.

The tech is usually totally unnecessary, at least as far as Robert and Ethan are concerned.

“You don’t need a refrigerator that has Netflix installed on it. You don’t need a shower head that gives you 500 different lighting options,”

The good news is you can save yourself some money with the one, since the price of home tech can add up.

Even microwaves have become too complicated and it’s not a good look to need the latest one with loads of different settings.

“It’s so over modernised, even trash cans lifting up every time you walk past them. Just give me a foot pedal and I can do it,” Robert said.

It turns out the duo struck a cord with viewers on TikTok, and many of them agreed with their home icks.

One said: “Yes, like why does my fridge need WIFI?!”

“Omg I’m a maid and I’ve cleaned so many gorgeous homes that are destroyed by gold and smart appliances,” a second commented.

And another agreed: “Smart home decor is the equivalent of wearing a chic outfit with an Apple watch.”
