‘Definitely not’ people cry as wedding guest shows off sparkly ‘princess’ outfit – that they say belongs in Ibiza

A WEDDING guest has sparked fury after modelling her embellished ”princess” frock, which they reckon looks like a beach party outfit.

Trendy fashionista Ellie Frances took to TikTok to proudly show off the stunning garment she was planning on attending a wedding in – but the feedback was brutal.

In the video, the gorgeous dark-haired beauty could be seen posing in front of the mirror with the ”princess” dress she’d ordered from the online retail giant ASOS.

The pricey number, which sells for an eye-watering £225, was a mini-length show-stopper, featuring dozens of pearl embellishments, as well as scallop hem in hot pink.

Still deciding on what to wear the item with, the ASOS shopper had styed the frock with a light pink purse, trendy statement earrings, stylish sunnies and a pair strappy heels with pink flower detailing to match the aesthetic.

”Guys, do we think this is wedding-appropriate? I’ve kept the tag on cause I don’t know if I’m going to keep it,” Ellie was in two minds about her purchase.

”I do really enjoy it,” the shopper said, seeking advice from fellow TikTok users on her platform.

”QUESTION I think I’m kind of giving princess is it wedding vibes help plz.”

‘Flashy’ outfit

But despite the fashionista liking the outfit she’d bagged for the ”abroad evening wedding”, the reaction on social media was slightly different.

Close to a staggering 400 people flocked to comments to brutally slate the young woman’s gear, as they insisted it was not suitable for nuptials.

One remarked: ”No not a wedding, birthday night out or holidays but not a wedding.”

Another agreed, nothing that she could be mistaken for an influencer in a popular tourist hotspot near Spain.

”No that’s more an Ibiza outfit.”

Meanwhile, others thought Ellie was a loyal Swiftie, with one writing: ”Honestly it looks like your going to a Taylor Swift concert.”

However, it wasn’t all harsh criticism, as some were raving over the princess-style garment, which was also described as ”flashy”.

Dos and don’ts of wedding dress codes

By Josie Griffiths, Fabulous deputy editor and bride-to-be.

Josie Griffiths said: I’ll never forget the wedding I went to in October 2022 where a guest wore a white dress.

It was ill-fitting, knee length and looked nothing like an actual wedding dress, but that didn’t stop everyone judging her.

The rules on wedding guest outfits – which are annoyingly loads stricter for women than they are for men – are meant to be about “not upstaging the bride”, which in reality is quite hard to do on someone else’s wedding day.

But if you get it wrong as a guest, you do end up looking a bit silly, and in front of loads of people who don’t know you personally.

It’s just not the occasion for your new white dress, as much as online stores love dumping them in the ‘wedding guest’ section.

I’d avoid anything too tight/short, and ditch super formal gowns unless the dress code calls for them – you don’t want to be in a full length sequin gown at a smart casual event.

Personally I don’t like black dresses either, it isn’t a funeral.

Otherwise you should be pretty safe. Technically wearing red means you’re in love with the groom, but that’s the kind of rule most people would scoff at nowadays.

I do always check what colour the bridesmaids are in, just to be safe, after the Spanish wedding where I watched them walk down the aisle in the exact same dress I’d had in my Asos shopping basket just weeks earlier.

If in doubt, safest to just double check with the bride… but if you’re already doubting your dress that might be all the answer you need.

”I do like it for sure! the shoes throw me off slightly,” wrote one fan of the look.

Someone else reminded: ”Girl you look amazing wear the dress! Life’s too short!”

A fellow style enthusiast told Ellie: Why are people saying Ibiza and festival, it’s stunning id deffo wear it to a wedding.”

Although Ellie – who insisted she wasn’t a Swiftie – hasn’t yet revealed whether she will be rocking the embellished number, she did confirm the dress will be going up for sale in August.

The frock, which is part of the ASOS LUXE range, is available in sizes UK 4 to UK 18 – and with 3k online shoppers already liking the mini gown, the Gem encrusted mini dress with pearl embellishment & scallop hem in hot pink is one of the hottest finds of the summer.
