Clippers sign defenceman Bowen Burke

Nanaimo, B.C. (July 10, 2024) — The Nanaimo Clippers have signed 2005-born defenceman and Union College commit Bowen Burke (Scottsdale, AZ) for the upcoming 2024-25 season, the team announced today.

Burke, 19, joins the team after leading the expansion Colorado Grit of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) in scoring last season, where he posted 28 points (8 goals, 20 assists) in 60 games played, and participated in the league’s annual Top Prospects Game.

Prior to his junior debut last year, Burke played three years of prep school hockey with prestigious Shattuck St. Mary’s in Minnesota.

“Bowen brings a very good two-way game to our defensive corps, has a knack for getting shots through, and is a high character player,” said Clippers general manager and head coach Colin Birkas. “His time at Shattuck helped prepare him to play a lot of minutes and in big situations for an expansion team last season, and with some big losses on our right side, we’re excited about the big role he will be playing for us.”
