St. Martin Parish inmate dead after medical emergency

ST. MARTINVILLE, La. (KLFY) – An inmate at the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center is dead after a medical emergency early Thursday morning.
According to St. Martin Parish Sheriff Becket Breaux, correctional deputies at the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center were conducting routine security checks around 2 a.m. Thursday morning when they discovered an inmate, Alvin Pete, 61 of Breaux Bridge, experiencing a medical event.
Life-saving measures were taken by the deputies and Pete was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Shortly after arriving at the hospital, he was pronounced dead.
The official cause of death is pending there are results from an autopsy.
